HoundDawgs Data Breach

What happened

In December 2017, the Danish torrent tracker known as HoundDawgs suffered a data breach. More than 55GB of data was dumped publicly and whilst there was initially contention as to the severity of the incident, the data did indeed contain more than 45k unique email addresses complete extensive logs of torrenting activity, IP addresses and SHA1 passwords.

• Change your HoundDawgs password immediately, and update it anywhere you reused the same password.
• Enable two-factor authentication on the affected account and on your critical services (email, banking).
• Watch for targeted phishing emails referencing HoundDawgs — attackers weaponise breach data quickly.
• Check whether your email address appears in this breach on haveibeenpwned.com.
