ProctorU Data Breach

What happened

In June 2020, the online exam service ProctorU suffered a data breach which was subsequently shared extensively across online hacking communities. The breach contained 444k user records including names, email and physical addresses, phones numbers and passwords stored as bcrypt hashes. The data was provided to HIBP by breachbase.pw.

• Enable two-factor authentication on the affected account and on your critical services (email, banking).
• Watch for targeted phishing emails referencing ProctorU — attackers weaponise breach data quickly.
• Stay alert for smishing (SMS phishing) and SIM-swap attempts using your phone number.
• Exposed identity data raises identity-theft risk — consider credit monitoring or a credit freeze.
