Vodafone Data Breach

What happened

In November 2013, Vodafone in Iceland suffered an attack attributed to the Turkish hacker collective "Maxn3y". The data was consequently publicly exposed and included user names, email addresses, social security numbers, SMS message, server logs and passwords from a variety of different internal sources.

• Change your Vodafone password immediately, and update it anywhere you reused the same password.
• Enable two-factor authentication on the affected account and on your critical services (email, banking).
• Watch for targeted phishing emails referencing Vodafone — attackers weaponise breach data quickly.
• Monitor your bank and card statements closely and consider requesting a card replacement.
• Stay alert for smishing (SMS phishing) and SIM-swap attempts using your phone number.
